1998 c280
Hello Peaches,
I bought my 1998 C280 with 103k two years ago. Excellent Mercedes in my opinion. Please of power, sporty handling, reliable as a baseball bat. When I bought the car there was a short list of things to address: replace cluster bulbs, brake wear sensor not correctly attached, ground strap not connected, oil change, reset service interval, missing A/C port cap, right air vent lever broken (repaired). The mirror adjustment knob on the console was broken off, missing. I installed a rubber brake nipple cover onto the adjustment shaft: I had to replace the belt tensioner and a belt. While I was paying attention to this system, I discovered that the other wheels that carry the belt are partially made of plastic and had cracks that would eventually fail. I bought new wheels and bearings and installed as preventive maintenance. If you have a W202, I would highly recommend checking the wheels on your fan belt train to see if they are plastic and what condition they are in. It will cost $10.00 to fix now, but much more in an emergency not to mention the hassle (never is a good time to have your fan belt shred). I would definitely buy another C280. 1998-2000 is the sweet spot. I prefer the V6 to straight six, and many convenience items were integrated making a 1998 better than a 1997 in my opinion. Best regards, Jeffrey
