AMG W124 Engine ID?
I am looking at a 86 300e being sold with an AMG package. From the pictures I've gotten it has a full front rear amg kit (gen 1?) with side skirts. It also has what appears to be the 17" aero I wheels, which would be a period correct conversion. This has my hopes up that it might be a proper amg example, or at least a conversion done by an enthusiast with some knowledge.
The engine looks like a regular m103 from all angles. I know there was a 3.4 m103, and maybe even a 3.6. Are there any distinguishing marks or ways to ID if this engine has been worked over? Wishful thinking but you never know. Not able to start it. It's pretty cheap so if the kit and wheels are oem, I'm buying it and parting out the rest. |

Well unless someone removed it/sold it, etc it should have an AMG valve cover.
It would most likely have mechanically adjustable rocker arms, not the stock hydraulic adjustable (auto adjustable) arms. On the right side of the engine under the MB engine # should be stamped an AMG number as well. edit should be able to see the adjustable arms through the oil cap hole
