190e Climate Control Connector Question
I believe I have traced all wires on the two climate module connectors except one. On connector x1 there is a brown/white wire on pin 8. I can't find it on a diagram.
Also, what does the feedback potentiometer do? Where is it located? |

I thought I'd follow up with some of my findings. Troubleshooting this system makes me feel as though I'm being hazed into the 190e club.
Contrary to some other threads I have read, my 90 2.6 190e does indeed have a vacuum reservoir in the passenger fender. I was able to remove it without removing the fender or even jacking the car up. It was fine. I found a minor leak to it in a connector under the rain guard by the windshield wiper. My check valve where that plugs into leaks down, but very very slowly. The heater valve is leaking vacuum. I plugged it off for now. I unplugged the aux heater pump for now as well, just for troubleshooting. The air/recirc vacuum actuator was leaking. I replaced it. Everything now holds vacuum when tested by unplugging at the switchover valve and giving vacuum manually. But, the vacuum actuators don't move when I press the climate control buttons. Except one. When I press the defrost button it works as expected. The legroom flap and recirculate flap move. From what I have read this is the only button that overrides the temp wheel which is leading to the temp sensors. My outdoor temp sensor readout is fried on my instrument cluster so I'm going to start there. There is acually a burn mark in the LCD. I do have an extra cluster I got from a junkyard and the LCD looks good. |

I've gotten a little deeper into the diagrams. I now see that the temperature sensor for the gauge is different than the outside sensor for the climate control. Is this part discontinued? I see the one that goes on the bumper is for sale everywhere, but not the one that attaches to the heater box under the wiper.
