Speedo stops working when hot on 1989 300E

I am wondering what could be the cause of a speedo failure I am having. The symptoms are that the speedo stops working when the temperatures inside the car get hot and the only way to get it to work again is to press the top of the cluster in towards the firewall. Otherwise, the speedo works great during cold weather.

Is this a common sign of a dying speedo cable? Or is the connection in the back not screwed in all the way?
