Replacing Door/Trunk Seals
I ordered a replacement trunk seal for my 300TD as during the rainy months and car washes water has been intruding on my trunk space.
However I have no idea how to replace this part and can not find a guide online. If someone could link to or provide guidance it would be much appreciated.

I hope you got the original seals because the aftermarket do not fit right. To replace it you have clean the old seal out and gets all the crud and glue out before replacing. Then glue the new seal in the right position like the old one. You can use yellow glue and leave the trunk open to dry the glue for 24 hours. On the upper part on the side use paper sheets and close the trunk and pull the paper sheets out. you might need a some hands. (wife and kids ?)

Greg, I second buying the replacement seals from a MB dealer ... either at your local dealer or online.

I've done this. My ex-124. Bought the MB seals and really didn't have too much trouble. Fitment was good. Previous advice in this thread is spot on.

Is there a good solvent to remove the old adhesive or does one just scrape it off? Also, is there a trick to removing the hard plastic covering the lowest edge near the bumper?

I did not use a solvent, I just used a plastic putty knife to remove the worst of it. Then I decided it wasn't worth it and glued the new one in. As far as I know it has no problems.

I have never
used a glue or sealant to replace any of my door or window seals. The MB design permits them to be rolled into place and snapped into the channels. You will see what I mean after you get your new seals and pull the old ones out.
Just clean out under the old seal as best you can. Does not have to be perfect. I have done this on trunk (and window) seals on my W123 and 560SL with excellent outcomes. |
