Sudden Misfire 300SEL

Hi all, Have a 300 Sel, 1990 and today when I got home I noticed it was skipping. 140,000 klm and very well maintained. After looking around a bit I noticed a cable broke off and hanging free that comes from the ignition control module on the drivers fender well over to the front of the engine by the water pump. Black cable looks like it sheared off. Not sure if it is recent or been that way for a while. Anyone know what that is for or what it does? Could that be my source for skip? I am worried that may not be it

The cable and mag pickup is not necessary for operation of the engine. It's for the MB EZL test set.

Coil? Wires? I had a brand new rotor fail after 4,000 miles on my 300E, would barely start and ran horrible. Replaced it, ran fine another 25k till I got rid of it...

just a thought, how are the motor mounts on the car? A failing mount could change the angle the engine sits causing the wire to come off or pulled off rather. I noticed the same with my 300sel, there was a chatter noise that was not there recently and ended up finding one of the mounts starting to fail even though I did not feel any abnormal vibrations inside the car

Seems the harmonic balancer flew apart. Never seen that before, so not a mis fire but shaking rather. Anyone know what the cable is called or part number?

Happened to a pal of mine on his 300SE. It happens on the M103s, probably more common on the 126s due to the 3.46:1 and no overdrive.
