W124 window switch: door down not up, console nothing
1987 300 TDT
I was driving home from a ski in northern VT today and rolled the rear windows down a bit for sweaty ventilation. The right rear wouldn't activate using the console switch. I reached back and hit the door button and cracked the window. When I went to roll it up, nothing. I tried a bunch of times with both switches with no result and now have plastic over the gap. I could get the window to go further down with the door switch, but I'm scared to go all the way. At home I pulled the console cover and tried swapping the RR window switch with another and it still didn't work. The RR switch worked the LR window just fine. I'd love any suggestions on diagnosing what seems likely to be electrical connection related. Did I mention it's been COLD in these parts and is forecast to get that way again! THANKS. |

went through the same with my 300te and left it busted for a while over the summer. Got tired of the plastic flapping in the breeze and removed the door skin eventually. I discovered that the cabling for the lifter was totally jacked up, which is why it could go down but not back up. Also discovered that a replacement is dirt cheap.
You're probably in the same boat, but colder. -CTH |

Update
The highlight of my day was starting the car in the morning and trying both switches. The console one raised the window, but the door one did not. I'm taping over those switches until the weather warms up! thanks for the suggestions.
