Diagnostic tool

Which diagnostic tool can i use with my 2007 c230? Tried using VAGCOM but that didnt work even with the generic obd2. Car just threw a CEL and is in limp mode. I dont really want an expensive unit but something that can erase the fault codes.

Generally, a car in limp home mode has a transmission issue. Limp home mode is designed to protect the transmission from further damage. OBD2 scanners display codes for common emission control devices not engine or transmission error codes. You'll need SDS style scanner at a dealer or MB indy to inspect/erase those codes. There are Chinese knock-off scanners on eBay which have worked for some but not others.

Exclamation

Yeah, watch out for those Cheap OBDII Scanners if the seller is from China... DON'T DO IT!

I made that mistake, and learned the hard way- it mimicked an ELM327, I believe.

Actually, I was referring to the SDS clones usually found by searching "MB Star Multiplex C4" or similar.

Purchased an OBD2 scanner from Pboys. It worked. Got the error code. You are right. It is a transmission issue.

I bet its either an oil leak or more likely a conductor plate gone bad...
