1986 300E driver side rear axle won't move

My 1986 300E has been sitting for about 9 months and now the left rear axle is frozen. My son took the wheel off and breaks and discovered that the axle would not move. I have found a shop that will replace the axle if I get it to them. I just want to know if that will fix the problem of if there could be something else. When I started the car the right wheel moved and drug the left rear wheel in forward and reverse.

Thanks for any help.

If the axle won't move, it is either the parking brake shoes or the wheel bearing, not the axle itself. Did son remove the brake rotor? It is also the drum for the parking brake shoes. If it is stuck, the shoes will need to be adjusted inward first using the star adjuster.

Then I would suspect the wheel bearing. If you disconnect the the axle shaft from the differential and it still won't turn, then you can be sure. If the diff flange is stuck, however, then the diff is your problem, but that sounds improbable.
