M104 non magnetic metal in pan and filter

I have a m104.994,it runs and idles fine,it has a mettalic sound like a stuck lifter, coming from front of engine.I suspect aluminum in the oil filter.
Do you all think its in the timing cover.Note head is not covered with aluminum.Filter did its job.Do you all think I can repair motor in the vehicle?Or should I trash motor?

I talked with a Benz tech.He said possible chain tensioner messed up,and chain is grinding into cover. But not to repair as it will be hard to get aluminum out of block. So I will replace motor and take my time and rebuild the original motor.Thinking of improving performance like a 3.4.Better crank, rods, and pistons.Better cam and valve train.
