Guide pulley
I have a noisy fan belt guide pulley on my '86 300E and I'm considering replacing it myself. This is the pulley located on the top passenger side. If someone has experience changing this out - please advise as to the difficulties I might anticipate.
Thanks! Paul |

Paul:
To accomplish this, you'll need to remove the fan clutch, then loosen the tensioner pulley a bit to remove the serpentine belt. The pulley you speak of that needs to be replaced is the one on the bearing bracket and a new one costs about $22 here on Fastlane. One 6mm (I think) hex bolt holds it on -- you may or may not have a plastic cover over the front of pulley to remove first. Very easy to r&r. If you need assistance on the fan clutch and tensioner please reply. Good luck! ~Paul ____________________ '91 300E, 209k miles |

Thanks for the reply, Paul.
Yesterday, I ordered the pulley, front flexdisk, new door checks, and a fuel filter from Fastlane. Hopefully, this will be my last project for a little while on the 300E - I need to begin my spring cleaning on the '88 300SE next. :p |

Wish I'd seen the post. I have an unused pulley I'm trying to get rid of.
While you're in there, check the pulley the fan spins on. That one gets noisy too. Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL 81 300SD (on ebay) |
