96 S500 Fuel consumption

Hi,

I was checking this site for a couple of weeks and it seems it is the best place to share and learn,i have a 96 s500 just bought 3 days ago and i noticed that it has a very fuel consumption compared to the 96 c140 i already have so my concern was, what are the main common things that cause that?

How bad are we talking? A W140 S500 is a big heavy car with a big thirsty engine. I would be surprised to see one running perfectly get much better than 20 mpg. Fueleconomy.gov predicts 14 city and 19 highway. An economy car it isn't.

Well with full tank the 3/4 will run about 100km on high way with 140 kmh speed so do you think it is ok.

If I am understanding this they are going about 62 miles on a quarter tank of fuel while averaging 86 mph. Sounds a little excessive to me but I am used to 95/95 E300s. How how many liters does it take to fill car up after run?

I thought about that post some more at work today. I think he's saying a 1/4 tank gets him 100 km. Assuming about a 20 gallon tank, that's about 12 mpg. Not great, but I've heard 560 SEL owners say they get about that mileage. Any 140 owners have experience to contribute?
