The display error is a sign of either a failing windshield wash level sensor or the coolant level sensor (forget which).

The fuel gauge not responding is usually the level assembly gone a bit haywire - it also contains the fuel tank pressure sensor.

btw - the gauges are easy to remove, get a wire coat hanger, bend it to shape of two handles and the workign edge should be a 90 degree hook about 1/8 of an inch only, wedge it between the gauge bezel and the wood trim to contact the teeth of the gauge bezel from the back, it will pull out smoothly (might take a side to side coaxing to get it going)

if you have removed W124 gauges, its the same principle.
