Newbie looking for a little guidance.
Hello. This week I purchased a 1989 300D diesel to use as a commuter and run around vehicle. These cars and engines are pretty new to me, as I'm used to larger ones that are in diesel pickup trucks. Just have a few questions. Turbo? My car is currently naturally aspirated, and I would like to turbocharge it. Just glancing at the engine, it looks to be a 6 cylinder. I've looked online and the only turbo/manifolds I've found are for 5 cylinders. Am I missing a detail somewhere or is there an engine code I need to figure out? Also, I looked at the fuse box and there are different fuses than I have ever seen. One looks to be blown. Where would I get a replacement? Last issue is a minor fuel leak, seems to be around the injection pump, just can't pinpoint it. Is there a common issue with these cars? Apologies for not knowing much and thanks in advance. The car only has about 110K and I'm going to try to keep it as long as I can! Love it so far.

Welcome
Congrats. Welcome to the club. You've come to the right place. This group likes pics, so please post some when you can. If you don't get any responses in the Tech Help section, see if you can flip your post over to the Diesel Discussion section.
Your info doesn't say where you live, but I'm guessing there's a dealer nearby for the fuse you need. Pelican has a good catalog of parts. Take a look while you're on the website.

Are you in the U.S.? Is yours a Euro? This source says only turbo 603's were officially available in the U.S.: Mercedes-Benz OM603 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The conventional wisdom on adding a turbo to a factory non-turbo engine is not to do it, but some folks have added a turbo successfully. You can probably find more information in the diesel performance section.

You can get a full set of replacement fuses plus extras in the proper copper/bronze element from fleabay delivered for about $10.
Your fusebox cover should have a roadmap of proper fuse layout.

Yes I am in Illinois in the US. Previous owner said he had done research and knew you could add a turbo, he was not mechanically inclined however. I am going to go look at AutoZone or O'Riellys for that fuse today. Is there anything that can be done to the n/a engine to get some more power out of it? The car is getting straight piped this week.

you're better off selling the 1 you have and buying a factory turbo, always sold here in the states. better info and support for them as opposed to non-us imports. good luck, chuck.
