SRS Light

I have two issues that I have been trying to cure on my '98 C280. The cruise control switch is broken and the steering wheel squeaks in cold weather. In order to repair both, the steering wheel must be removed. I tried a 5 foot cheater with no luck. My mistake was driving it with the air bag disconnected to purchase a butane torch. The torch and the cheater still didn't work, so I put it back together. However, the SRS light did not go off when the air bag was reconnected.

I have searched the forum, but do not see a method for resetting this light. Is this a dealer thing, or can you access the system through OBDII? I have a scan tool, but I don't see any SRS codes?

Ps: I actually did cure the squeak by blindly squirting in some WD 40 before I put the air bag back in.

I am under the impression that it is a dealer reset issue.

So how would the dealer do this? Do they plug into another diagnostic port other than the OBDII port? I guess I could find out by taking to the dealer, but it is 30 miles away, and I would likely have to take off work to get it done. Actually, taking off work is more penal to me then the fee for resetting the light.

Has anyone ever found a technique to reset the light on a W202? I really do like DIY. Just need a little information. Thanks.

The MB diagnostic software(DAS) will clear and reset the code.

For the steering wheel, you were using the 10mm allen socket? I've done several of these and you have to have an assistant holding the wheel and really bear down on the breaker bar, it's really torqued down with MB locktite too.
