compressor or clutch?

Last year my a/c unit lost freon and the fan belt started squealing. Now it doesn't come on at all. I shot a little gas in the compressor and it kicked on but the belt wouldn't move and started smoking. I quickly shut it off. Does this sound like the clutch or the compressor gone? How difficult is it to replace the clutch and do I remove the compressor to do this? Also does anyone know where I can get a compressor if I need one. Fast Lane doesn't show them in stock. Thanks....

It doesn't matter -- the compressor comes with the clutch. Buy a rebuilt A6 unit -- they're inexpensive and absolutely rock-solid.
