Does anyone know what this is? (the spring thing) Looks like it used to be some kind of hose that lead outside.

Excessive speeding? It ain't excessive till I redline!

Yup its the drain for condensation out of the heater core/ac evaporator box.

I have replaced them on my cars with 5/8 or 3/4 heater hose. A little grease will help them slide on the drain barbs on the box, and into the grommets in the transmission tunnel that lead outside.
