'Light bulb out' warning light...

On the '88 2.6E, I have the 'light is out' warning light glowing most of the time but have checked and double checked all lights and they are all functioning!! It is frustrating. Any ideas?

Third brake light - OK
License plate lights - OK
Headlights, taillights, turn signals, marker lights, fogs, backup, parking lights, can't think of others at this moment! Thanks for input

i'm not familiar with your model, but it's not unheard of for 2 bulbs to span the license plate

Visually inspect all the bulbs and replace any that appear discolored.

That's probably some good advise! Just add that to my weekend to-do list!

Try pulling the light relay module. Check for corrosion sometimes they get chalky. Sometimes just pulling and putting back in will do the trick.

Have yet to get to this 'project' this weekend but the weekend is not over! Thanks for this info as well, however, would you give me a location for that relay? Guessing it is somewhere near the fuse panel? Thanks

The light relay module is located in the fuse box. Its a big long box, cant miss it.

Those modules ARE prone to cold solder joints at the pins on the circuit board. I've re-worked a few of them so far. If you're interested let me know. I'm happy to help.

Thank you for your offer! I'll report what I find when I dig into it. Son has the car out at the moment so maybe a little later this afternoon.

So, I've got the cover of the fuse/relay panel and I believe I read that these relays are all the plug-in type but I can't seem to get good enough grip on the "Exterior Bulb monitoring module" to pull it out. Is there a secret? Thanks

That would be my fuse box! It's on the to do list but yes I'm aware they need to be switched out to fresh copper fuses.

Thanks but it was a bit large to fit nicely (pic)...

Check for corrosion on the bulb terminals, AND the electrical connector of the wires to the bulb holders. If the connector is hard to pull apart, chances are it is corroded. It doesn't take much corrosion on either the bulb (look for broken lens or water presence) or the connector to the wire harness to trigger the light bulb out indicator. My guess is corrosion somewher is the problem.

It's going to take me a while to get this done with my work load at the moment, but I'll report back as I move forward.

Sometimes bulbs that stillwork, but are dying will cause a lamp out warning. Do the flick test. Gently flick each bulb with your fingernail and see if any of the filaments break.
