Mercedes 280ce flooding problem

Just picked up a 1980 280CE AMG sitting a garage for 20 years, drained the fuel tank, new filter and pump, will only start if I disconnect the fuel pump relay at full throttle, definately dumping way too much fuel, and if I put the relay back in will only run at full throttle, any suggestions? is there a fuel pressure regulator in this system or am I looking at the fuel ditributer...
