What is the correct battery size and brand for a '94 E420.

P.S. It looks like the photo on the home page is from the Concours d'Elegance at Pebble Beach. That is a great event. I have been there for the past fourteen years.

Good eye. The photo was from a Concours d'Elegance, but that shot was taken at the recent Amelia Island Concours. We've been there since its inception a few years ago. A few of the owners who we spoke to while there said it is getting like Pebble but without all the huge crowds(as yet) and with a more comfortable atmostphere. We have tons more shots of cars from the show. Would anyone here like to see some kind of "Concours coverage"? A spread of pics and info on both the MB's and the other cars at the show.... IF there is enough public interest we could put something together.

I recently replaced the battery in my '94 E320. The old one was the one the factory put in, but, after 5 years, it gave up the ghost, and refused to take a charge. I suspect they only last so long. It was a Varta brand, with MB logos, and a part number of 56219. I replaced it with a slightly larger battery, but also a Varta with MB logos, part number 124 04646. The battery tray in my E320 had two different bolt holes which allowed it to take the two different sized batteries. It seems that it would be possible to put in an even larger battery if you had a mind to.
I also had a look at some non-OEM batteries. Sears makes a DieHard that would fit. It was perhaps 20-25% cheaper than the OEM. Neither size is unusual, so most battery makers would have one that would fit. It is up to you whether keeping your Benz original is worth the extra $$.

STAY with an O.E. quality battery!! Remember where the is located, do aftermarket batteries have provision for proper venting?? The original battery carries A 100AH rating, so buy the same size!!

Interstate offers a great selection of O.E. size and performance batteries. I have had the best of luck with them. Interstate has batteries made for specific Mercedes applications.
