New Check Engine Light Nuisance Swtich

OK, I get it. The Check Engine light turns on because one of a many things has gone wrong and you need to fix it. Thankfully the great MBZ engineers designed a car that can keep running relatively well even without having everything running perfect. On many occasions, you have to drive with that damn Red Light on. Especially at night, it's particularly a nuisance. Here's my simple work around. I have had the misfortune to be on the receiving end of some of the common work-arounds (creative bulb wiring to cut off the power to the bulb after a brief delay or taking the bulb out altogether). This just means I have to pull the cluster out again. Not my favorite thing to do.

How about solving it once an for all... put in a push button switch that turn's the damn light off when you want to!

Just go down to the local electronics store (used to be Radio Shack), buy a push button switch with two poles, drill a hole discretely on the edge of the knee bolster, jump the power wire from the Check Engine bulb to the switch with some connections in between that you can take apart if you have to, and you're done. Now when you drive down the road and the Check Engine light comes on, make a note of it to do the repair just as soon as you can, but reach down push the button and turn that blasted light off!

Pictues of the Fix

Here's the pics I meant to attach.

BTW: the reason for my current check engine light condition is related to the replacement of my smog pump that doesn't seem to be recognized by the system. So until I figure it out, the push button takes care of it for me
