Read a lot about oils for SL, now I'm more confused.

Dealer say 5W30
Some people say 10W40
Some say 10W50
Some say 15W50.

PLEASE HELP

THANK YOU

8b:

If operating in the vicinity of Colesville, and only in winter, lean towards 5W30.
If in Millville in the summer, go for 10W40/10W50.
But since you insist on being in New Jersey, really, you are on your own.

8bender, recommend Mobil 1 15W50 for that vintage engine, especially if it's never been rebuilt.

Thanks Fred
Question isn't 15 is too high for a cold weather like in NJ?
Dont you think a 5W or 10W would be better?

THANKS

8bender, I run Mobil 1 15W50 in our older vintage MB automobiles (1991 300CE and 1995 E320), which had 15W40 as factory fill, year round. The older engines didn't have the tight tolerances of the newer engines and operate fine with the higher viscosity oil. The Recommended Engine Oil vs. Ambient Temperature Chart in the Owner's Manual for our 1991 300CE shows that 15W50 oil is fine for temperatures down to minus 4 degrees F. NJ and PA rarely see temperatures in the teens.
