Small Ball Came Loose When Opening Lower Timing Chain Cover on 1987 260E

Hi,
We are doing a valve job on our 1987 260E with over 400K miles. Unfortunately, we were also trying to replace the chain and the chain dropped in the pan. So we had to open the lower timing chain cover. I have 2 questions:

1. When we were removing all the parts to remove the timing chain cover, a small ball fell out. We have no clue where it came from. Does anyone know ? I was looking at the parts that MB dealer gave us to properly refit the lower timing chain cover and he too gave a ball (part number 005401306000).

2. The MB dealer also gave me 2 freeze plugs, part number 000443017000. I have no clue where they go as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. We have riveted the master link of the chain, attached the intake to the cylinder head and are ready to put the head back and refitting the lower timing chain cover.

Thanks,

Best,

Saumil

There are some balls to plug the oil passages, per the diagram. Nr 47 says 6 required, so maybe you can see the others: Mercedes CYLINDER HEAD & GASKET KIT
