280e runs for 3-4 seconds and then shuts off
my 84 280e sat for many years. I had to pull the tank out , remove screen, clean the tank the best I could, buy a new fuel pump as the old one was seized up, and replace a few hoses. The car ran decent for about 15 minutes. granted there was white smoke ( I suspect most of that came from the brake fluid being burned as the booster was full of brake fluid)>. there is a exhaust leak by the cat. then the car started to run bad and when gas pedal was floored it would barely run and misfire. now upon turning the key it runs for a few seconds then shuts off. the following morning I got up and it ran for 2-3 minutes enough to move the car and then runs upon start up and that's it. I did notice one of the spark plug wire plastic portion by the metal boot is busted up(beru wires). the cap ive scrapped the corrosion off. the intake boot between the intake and the fuel distributor is cracked. I have noticed that I am getting fuel to the distributor but nothing at the injectors. before the car ran I was. I have high octane gas in the tank. ive cracked the metal lines at the distributor and nothing. I do not want to toss money at this. Im thinking its one of 2 things.
that fuel accumulator under the trunk by the fuel pump the fuel distributor needs rebuilding/ cleaning I sould also mention that there was a varnish built up in some lines. before I started car with the new pump, I turned the pump on with the lines disconnected to avoid sending crap into the distributor. what should I look at or test car is a 4 speed |
