84 300sd no reverse no forward

The car will not drive forward or go into reverse. The linkage is intact, I have changed the fluid and filter there was no debris in the pan, the fluid was not a true red maybe a little burned but not smelly.I have disconnected the cooler line the fluid gushes out rapidly. Does anybody know what the problem is or do it yourself test on tranny and or related parts. I don't want to throw money at the wrong thing. All comments and tips are needed. Thanks!

If this happened right after fluid exchange, you may not have enough fluid in trans. On my SD it takes a while for fluid to run down the tube,to get a accurate reading on dipstick.Which can make you think pan is full. Now there are some things that can go wrong in the trans that can be repaired if car was driving before this.

x2, it definitely can be alarming the first time as it does take a while.

It can also be caused by a plugged or incorrectly-installed filter, I've had a few out of the box (cheaper aftermarket, not Mann or MB) where the filter media was un-glued within the filter body and blocked the fluid flow.
