722.3 B2 clearance, need opinions (video)

I wanted to get someone's opinion on measuring the B2 brake band since I find it rather difficult to get measurements with my caliper. Maybe I just need some really long calipers to get in there?

Here is the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNoIUdm45i4

The clearance looks to me about 5 mm when I try to measure it and the band seems to be fully bottomed out if I engage it with the piston cover. I checked the amount of travel I get by moving the band with my fingers versus pressing on the B2 cover and it is the same.

My original problem is a slipping transmission in all gears except 4th. But I also noticed that the B2 piston was stucking in place when I compressed the cover trying to disassemble it. Now it does not do that since I have removed it and lubricated the piston seal and bore with ATF and reassembled. I have not replaced any B2 parts yet.

What do you guys think? I was about to order the longer 3 stripe dog bone thrust pin (126 277 73 75 / 48.8mm) since a former tech told me the standard procedure for refreshing 722.3 was to replace the original (126 277 71 75 / 47.2mm) 1 stripe thrust pin with it.

The wises thing to do is to get some "silly putty" from the toy store, and stick it in there. Then measure it, but it is not hard to measure with a normal vernier caliper. you have seen this attachment?

I have one that I need to operate-on that slips after 3rd gear, but I think the rear teflon washer is damaged.

I went to Harbor Freight and picked up a long reach measuring caliper and was able to measure the clearance at around 4.5mm. Number is tighter than spec of 5.5mm to 6mm, but there isn't a shorter pin to install and I'm assuming this isn't my problem then. I confirmed this by sticking a 6mm long allen key in there for reference/sanity check.

Is the smaller black bore seal difficult to replace while transmission is in the car? I don't want to start disturbing the seal just to find out that it is difficult to remove/install while it is in the car.

I'm running out of ideas as to why the transmission was slipping besides the fact that the piston was a little bit sticky before I started to disassemble and clean things up.

edit:

I think I'm just going to go ahead and replacing the following parts and move on:

005 997 7048 - B2 cover seal
006 997 7347 - Black B2 piston bore seal
140 277 0455 - White large B2 seal that goes around the piston head (T seal)
124 277 0280 - Lower cover gasket
126 277 1480 - Valve body gasket

Martin,

Any good ideas on removing the black B2 piston seal? I tried prying out out with a small screw driver with the valve body removed, but I ended up just ripping it to pieces. I also tried punching the bushing (mines plastic already) but nothing would give.
