to build or not to build,that is the question

A rebuilt power steering pump for my w140 1999 is $190 plus $100 deposit. The seals are $25. How hard to put them in? Low on funds my wife is really ill.

if you are dexterous with tools and have a DIY confidence of more than 5 you can do it.

1 = oil change
5 = repair electrics
10 = pull and rebuild engine/trans/axle

look up some images and videos of how such pumps are assembled and how they function, you can do it then. A jar of assembly gel and a pack of seals is all it takes.

Easy buddy on the S320 or S420, but take the belt off and feel-out the bearing wobble(usually none) because if you need that-that may be Pandora's box..

the circlip holding the impeller is the pain in the process. G-AMG wrote a great DIY..

to prevent the rotor vanes from playing tricks on you while installing, use green transmission assembly gel to keep them in place.

I'm not sure if I'd use any sort of gel to hold them in place. You want these to be as free flowing as possible.

that gel dissolves immediately in PSF or ATF. Its used in automatic transmissions to help stick stuff together during assembly only. Once a slug of oil comes in its wiped clean.
