Sugar Bear: In your last post on this thread you mentioned to put a small, sparing amount of black RTV around the half moon seal edges.

Is there a specific brand of black RTV or general/generic black RTV to put on the half moon seal edges? Are all black RTV the same no matter what brand or generic? Does it matter? Some stores carry different brand/generic names with black RTV as its title.

SugarBear, my wiring harness is dated with the year of 2005, Delphia pigtail. So the wire harness is good and thanks for asking.

Any quality brand that states O2 sensor safe and for use on valve covers will work. Use it sparingly. Good luck!!!

dmorgan, simply use some citrus-scented grease/oil cleaner available at Walmart or auto supply stores. A new valve cover gasket and new grommets should resolve your oil leakage problem. Apparently someone reused the old ones last time the valve cover was removed, instead of replacing them.

If you want a truly amazing oil/grease cleaner, there's one called "Oil-Eater" on Amazon for $52 delivered for a 5 gallon pail. A 4:1 water/cleaner ratio is all you need. I've used every brand and all the "purple" types available from the parts houses and none of them compare to this stuff.

I used a 4:1 ratio in my parts washer when I was cleaning up the engine parts on my SDL. The solution dissolved so much stuff it actually got thick and was still dissolving and suspending crud. Finally emptied the parts washer yesterday and it had a 1" layer of muck on the bottom.

The best part - unlike the purple stuff it doesn't discolor aluminum. A little bit goes a long way and it does a great job. Spray on, wait, scrub if really nasty, rinse off. I used a pump up sprayer and did the engine in the SDL and it's clean as a whistle.

Fred and Diseasel300. Thank you for your feedback/comments. Today, the throttle body or EA arrived at my home. Inspected the rebuilt parts along with the defective parts that were replaced, the old wire harness was very fragile with open wires, torn insulation, etc. The other two defective parts including the gear and the clutch, I cannot see why they were replaced. Maybe bent, worn out, etc. Maybe the repair technician did some tests on the old clutch and gear (as shown in the pictures on this thread) and found out to be defective. I was impressed with the EA, very cleaned on top, bottom (including inside the butterfly) and all four sides of the EA and brand new wire harness on the EA. I am looking forward to complete the job I was set out to do in the first place. The only thing is holding me up is the grommets will not arrive until Saturday. .

Also, I bought Enginer Degreaser and Permatex Ultra Black Gasket Maker #22072 for the valve cover gasket project and cleaning up the messy oil around the coils, spark plug wires, and other areas near the engine. Stay tuned.

The Grommets and sparks plugs arrived today, a day earlier than expected. ((yes, the spark plug part number is Bosch spark plugs F8DC4 preset at .032 gap)

I am a little embarassed about the grommets situation. I was under the impression that the grommets have rubber/metal combo when, in fact, the grommets are all rubber and the metal top part head is part of the overall metal bolt sleeve. I guessed that grommet were so closely tight with the top head that I thought it was all one part like rubber/metal combo grommets. In addition, when removing the old grommet from the bolt sleeve, it was loose and not tight like the new grommets. I apologize for the confusion in that regard. Live and learn.

Now I have all the parts available to me to complete the throttle body reassemby to the intake manifold and the valve cover gasket situation as well. I can't wait to get to work on the Mercedes. Stay tuned.

dmorgan, no need for gasket maker on the valve cover gasket. Install it dry after thoroughly cleaning the valve cover and the mating surface of the head. Snug up the bolts if you don't have exact torque specifications. Avoid overtightening the bolts and stripping out the threads in the head.

Fred, thanks for the feedback/comments.

I am doing a valve gasket replacement on my 1994 Mercedes wagon. Inside the valve gasket kit includes the valve gasket, 2 half moon grommets? and six sealers goes on the spark plug holes on the valve cover. I got the valve cover gasket on the valve cover along with the 6 ring sealers that goes on the spark plug holes. My question is where does these 2 half moon grommets (?) go? Someone mentioned that both of these half moon grommets goes back in the valve cover area. I am enclosing a picture of the valve cover as a guide. Can anyone tell me where is the location on the valve cover to put those two half moon gasket/grommets? Feedback/comments is greatly appreciated.

I did some research about the half moon gaskets. Both are located in the rear/behind the engine near the firewall above the cyclinder hear. According to some posts, get a flashlght and mirror an should see one half moon gasket near the exhaust manifold area and the other near the intake manifold area. I hope I am right.
