I own a 2000 S430 (W220) that is having some PSE issues. (Soft close doors do not work/but I don't care about that. Trunk will not pop via key fob or with interior button/I would like that fixed. Can still open with key) I have several questions because as I delve further and further into this pump issue, I'm getting multiple red flags and I'm trying to NOT mortgage my children;

1. Is it 100% the pse pump? Or can the soft close/trunk issues have an individual component malfunctioning? If it's the pump, can the pump work for some parts of the car and not others? Is this a sign that the pump is slowly dying and I should replace it?

2.Is the security alarm part of the pse pump? Lately, it has been self-activating (sounding)approx. 7-10 mins after locking the car and walking away. (soft close and trunk issue have not been working for about 3 years, (but I'd like the truck fixed), the security alarm thing just started a month or so ago. And its hit/miss as whether or not it will sound the alarm, which makes me wonder if it's part of the PSE pump that is going.)

3. My model number PSE pump is 220 800 06 48, which I have removed. In researching a replacement, I see that the replacement model number has changed and ends in 12 48 now. In further researching, I see that several MB model numbers all have been replaced with this 220 800 12 48 part number. (See pic)Is it reasonable to assume that a 220 800 02 48 would work as well, given the above information? (see pic of ebay posting)

4. In my zeal to remove the PSE pump, I may or may not have followed the pdf "removing and replacing PSE pump steps" exactly and in same order, (pdf graciously supplied by this forum ;thank you for that, albeit post pse removal!). If I follow the install portion of that pdf, will that suffice? Or should I just give up now and mortgage those children?

5.. Is it absolutely a requirement that the PSE pump will need to be recoded by a Star Diagnostic machine? Earlier, I saw a post by mbdoc that stated 99% of replacement pse pumps do not need to be recoded. Do I just wing it and hope it takes? Are their any indicators (other than works/doesn't work, or car bursting into flames) that I should be looking for? Anything I need to watch for down the road?
