W210 key fob woes
Hey folks! I am checking to see if I can repair my one and only key fob. When I bought my 2001 e320 at auction it had just one fob taped together, was missing the lock button and the flat metal key! Greeaat peter.
I purchased one of those cheap aftermarket fob housings off of flea bay and put it all together with new batteries. Oh what a perty fob I have now! I still do not have a cut metal key for my car but thought I would get to that later. Here is my problem.... Car starts perfect. Key fob will unlock the doors and pop the trunk. However the lock button does nothing. Crap! So since I have NO cut metal flat key for my car AND the lock button does not work.....how the hell do I lock my car??? I pulled the fob back apart and looked at the circuit board and noticed the tiny round black buttons on the board. You know they do the “clicking” and make things happen when the fob is together. Under close inspection the little tiny black button on the circuit board for the locking function is gone! I see it’s little foundation where it once resided and it’s not there. Crap. The others for unlock, trunk and panic are there and function as they should. Question....can I repair this? Has anyone had any experience with working on these circuit boards? I guess it fell out during the POs tenure with the car since that original fob had fallen apart and the outer lock button was missing. I have this car going to my daughter in a few weeks and could use a little advice. Thanks in advanced sorry for the long a$# description. Joe
