Acceleration delay

I just got a 1994 E280/124T station-wagon (automatic) and, although it seems to run fine, the acceleration is very strange: I have to press the accelerator down quite a bit before getting any response, and then, when I do, it just takes off. I thought maybe it was a trans problem, but it does the same in neutral and park. Could it be the injectors that are clogged, and if so, do I need to take'm out to clean or can I just try to add some cleaning product to the gas? Appreciate any help. This is my first Mercedes and I haven't worked on cars since I was a kid (30 years ago) when I rebuilt a few engines and did all my own car work. Thanks.
