Gauging Interest in Wrecked 230CE

Hi all. I had a bad weekend. While my 1981 230CE (Euro model) was parked in front of my friend's house, someone in a BMW E46 came ripping down the street and slammed into my car, and drove off.

I'm still working with insurance to figure out what the disposition is, but I am pretty sure it's going to get totaled. So I am wondering what the interest in some of the parts would be, and if there would be someone looking to buy whole car, or to just part it out. Damage is to the driver's side rear wheel area.

Since it is a Euro model, for sure I'm guessing the headlights and bumpers would be worth it to someone. Headlights are perfect, bumpers have some rust but definitely refinishable.

The engine is probably pretty undesirable, as it is the M102.980 and not sure what someone would use that for.

The transmission is the 5-spd Getrag 717.401, which seems like someone might be interested in? I know it doesn't bolt up with most W123 cars because the starter is on the wrong side, but not sure what other applications it might work for.

I've also got the very cool BBS KBA40399 rims, but one of them got damaged in the accident. Might be repairable, the damage is very limited, I'm not sure.

As a whole, this car was awesome to have in the USA, because it had a lot of features I thought were better than most W123 coupes: euro lights and bumpers, period BBS rims, gas engine with some pep, 5spd transmission. But not sure how a lot of it is to any US models, and wondering if its worth it to anyone before I get into it with insurance details.

I have pics I can send if anyone is interested.

Thanks.

The transmission and flywheel should be of value to those with M10x or OM60x engines.

My condolences. And what a jerk who smashed your 230CE. I would at least get an estimate before sending this rare car to the wrecker. But if you decide to do so, everything of the manual climate control should also be saved - it's valuable to anyone wanting to rid himself of the ever-problematic auto system. If it has a manual sliding roof, save it too.

Oh sorry, I didn't realize I didn't have my location in profile. I am in Pasadena, California.

I'm meeting with insurance adjuster tomorrow, we shall see how it goes.

Good to know about the usefulness of the climate control parts, and the transmission/flywheel.

Sunroof is electric.
