California Emission hardware on a 560SEL?

Hi Folks and Happy 4th of July.
I just purchased a 1991 560SEL that was originally sold in California. My question is, does this model have any additional emissions hardware to meet Cali regulations and if so is there any advantage to removing it regarding driveability or performance?

I believe MB at the time was making it's cars "50 state compliant" so every car shipped to the US had equipment to meet both California and EPA regulation. California is 1/3 of the US luxury car market so it helps to be able to move inventory around.
