W211 E-Class W219 CLS GPS Antenna Frozen Fix and SOS Malfunction Fix DIY w/Pics

Car: W219 Mercedes CLS . These instructions also work on the W211 E-Class.
After reading almost 500 posts online and not being able to get a clear answer, I went online and bought many different GPS antenna’s and finally fixed the problem.

Problem: GPS is fixed to a location far away and direction in Driver Cluster was incorrect also. SOS light was issuing a Malfunction and SOS lights were lit up red in the car and Cluster instructed me to take the Car immediately for servicing.

Parts for fix: You will need to buy 2 different GPS ANTENNA’s
Antenna 1: GPS Antenna Fakra C 5005 Bule SMB female right angle 3M cable ~ MFD2 RNS2 RNS-E (FOR GPS)
Antenna 2: Wiclic Becker - GPS antenna Purchased from E-bay (To fix SOS Error)
Make sure you buy these antenna’s, I purchased many others that didn’t work.

Fix:

Step 1: Remove inner trunk liner on Driver side trunk area to access Navigation DVD tray area from behind. You will have to remove everything since you will need to access the GPS splitter also.

Step 2: Once liner is removed, push the pink tabs on the front of the DVD tray and the DVD tray will slide right out. Pull gently not to damage the fibre-optics connected to the Navigation DVD. Do not pull out too far as the wires are short.

Step 3: Remove the old blue GPS connector, there is a black reinforcement tab on this OEM wire, it will break off, there is no concern with this. I gently used a flat head screw driver to remove the wire.

Step 4: You will want the(blue) Fakra GPS inside the car near the rear window area. Remove the subwoofer cover (snap on) in the back headrest area using a flathead screwdriver. Run the Fakra antenna from inside the car via the holes where the Subwoofer cover snaps into.

Step 5: Run the Fakra GPS along the side wall of the car and plug it into the back of the Navigation DVD tray.

Step 6: Remove the GPS Splitter located on the driver side fender area in the trunk close to the dvd tray area. My splitter was very corroded and the connecters were all seized together. I sprayed it with a silicone spray and let it sit for a while and then very carefully using a flathead screw driver removed the connected wires. The car has one factory GPS antenna and the splitter is used to send one connection to the Navigation DVD tray and the other connection goes to the SOS system. This part commonly fails.

Step 7: Connect the WICLIC Becker(black) GPS antenna to the SOS wire which was previously connected to the splitter.

Step 8: Run the WICLIC Becker GPS Antenna to the rear hatch clicking area which was previously covered by the hard plastic cover. The WICLICK Becker GPS antenna has a Magnet base which is fairly strong and it will easily attach to the area and stay firmly in place. This will stop the SOS Error because it now has a GPS connection again and the red lights will turn off also.

Step 9: Drive your car for about 15 minutes and you will start to see the satellite count go up. Mine went from 0 satellites to 9 Satellites and the Command GPS screen began to reposition itself to my correct position on the GPS screen.

Step 10: If everything is working correctly, reinstall the trunk driver side lining.

Time: 2.5 hours to complete. My time (1 week of trial and error and 3 months of research and waiting for parts to arrive from E-bay).
