w126 steering lock disable
I have a 300SDL that I'll be parting out soon. To get it to the place I'll be parting it I'll be putting it on a dolly. However, I've been told that the seller doesn't have a key.
Yeah.. I'm pretty sure I can get it started and running, but I'm not sure where it's parked so steering might be an issue. Does anyone have experience in drilling out the steering lock on these cars? I've done it on a w123, but that was a pain and I had the key. I'm almost wondering if it would be easier to cut the tie rods and steer by pushing the tires. Any advice would be appreciated.

If it's like the W124, these cars are pretty near impossible to steal! I have a parts car 93 sedan with no key. I tried driving a screwdriver into the lock and breaking it with a crescent wrench... no dice. Tried drilling the lock out.... no dice, the little stainless cover is as hard as a HSS drill. Tried just breaking the lock pin with a bar through the wheel... no dice. My end solution was to take the lower dash panel off to where I could see the lock pin and chain drilling a row of holes in the cast aluminum housing to allow the pin to pull back and release the steering.

If you haven't figured it out by now, use a decent floor jack under the cross member to swing it over to the dolly or spend $60 (or so) to have a wrecker place it for you.
