2000 black on black C230 KOMPRESSOR PPI ?s

HI everyone
I'm looking at buying a 00 W202 KOMPRESSOR YAY!!!!!!
Ive always loved those bodies and always wanted a KOMPRESSOR model.
I have a couple friends that own car dealerships here in Portland OR.
So I go to a dealer auction once of twice a month just to see what's around.
Yesterday I was browsing tomorrows auction entries and low and behold I see a black on black pretty little 2000 C230 KOMPRESSOR.
I was able to test drive it and all seems well.
dealer auctions are a little diff. than your public ones, Keys are left in all the cars and there is a test track to try the cars out pre to bidding. kinda spoiled now.....LOL
tha car is being sold by a new car store, so it was a trade in vehicle, I want to go back today and give it another look over BTW it has 123K
What should I be looking for? I have a basic Bosch Scan tool I can take along..
thank you for reading this and any comments that follow
I will grab pics today. has current Oregon plates and looks to be a local rust free car

Since you have dealer connections, can you get a history report? Maybe a VMI?

It’s easier to determine whether a car is worth a certain price such as when haggling down from an asking price. In this case you need to determine how much to bid.

This seems comparable and it has the Sport package (does the auction car?) - https://portland.craigslist.org/clc/cto/d/2000-mercedes-c230-kompressor/6688035909.html

That asking price caps my interest in the auction car at about $1200.

Make sure it has at least 2 working key fobs. The kind with no exposed blade is $3-400 and only available from MB regardless of Craigslist seller claims that they just need programming. If it only has one fob, factor the cost of a spare into you bid.

The rest of what I’d check is generic including -

That car might be from the era with VIN decals on all body parts (doors, hood, bumpers...). If a VIN decal is missing, painted over or from another car, the car was probably in a collision.

Check that all ACC functions work, windows, locks, lights, etc.

The 00 C230 has less power than any year C280 so take that into consideration.

If you hold out for a 97 C280 you won't be sorry, I have one. The 97 C280 is last year for the silky smooth M104 inline 6 and first year for 722.6 electronic shift 5 speed, has a metal key with a security chip.

SO I BOUGHT THE CAR

Got it for $1100 after all fees. It has tags good till june of next year and brand new tires.
cons. pass rear window needs new regulator, and neither of the front power seats work at all. (checked all under hood fuses. they are all good)
Maybe some one has some ideas about the seats

Still check the car over, not all crashes are recorded. Regardless, you are into the car at such a low $, some issues can be overlooked.

See my posts in this thread https://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/395716-looking-someone-run-two-different-vmi.html

It shows that a totaled car can still have a clean title / clean CF / Autocheck.

Also, if you hear any timing chain noise, repair it. The 4 cyl tends to wear chains / tensioner to the point the chain will break and bend the valves.

Even the memory position buttons are unresponsive? Try holding a seat switch in one direction for at least 5 seconds. That might reset the seat controller. Same with the window unless you know for sure it’s the regulator.

How's the headliner?

I have two 200 W202's and it's a problem in both.

other than the sunroof slider shade that is peeling around the vent holes the headliner is in great shape. I'll count my blessings I guess...LOL

I don't believe my 202 has seat memory buttons
about the window,,,,,the motor is moving the cable but it makes the typical bad regulator crackling sounds with no window movment

The 98 and up W202 has a CAN system for many functions. I haven't researched these, only my 97. Given both don't work, there is a global problem, find the seat controller and make sure it is getting power / CAN communication. If this is a one driver car, and a solution can't be found, I'd jumper the motors to get things into position.

You really need a wiring diagram for this car for current and future repairs.

I replaced the headliner on my 97 during a windshield replacement, comes out the front very easily. It is possible to remove with glass in but requires seat removal and bending. Once the headliner starts to peel ( on the c pillars on mine ) it deteriorates very rapidly. The sun roof vents on mine disintegrated and I didn't replace them, had the shop cover over them. Also put white vinyl on inside of glass to block sun.

Also with headliner out, replace the 4 sun roof drain hoses and extend them outside of the rocker panel. Yes, they drain into the rockers. The stock ones deteriorate above the headliner leading to leaks. Just buy them at the dealer, they are metric and thin wall making them difficult to source in the US. Replacements are cut to fit leaving enough to get outside of the rocker.

that's sounds like great advise. Here in the NW we get more rain than shine
