1995 E300D W124 Transmission Swap with a 1995 E320

1995 E300D W124 Transmission Swap with a 1995 E320

Hello, My transmission is bad on my 1995 E300d so I would like to ask if the transmission from the 1995 E320 would be compatible?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

Possibly but it’s more work than just the transmission. The E320 has a beefier 722.3 transmission and the driveline through diff yoke to go with it. You’d have to swap all that or mix and match parts to make them work. The E300 has a 722.4 transmission.

Thanks for the information.

To confirm the 1995 E300D has the 722.4 transmission as does the 1995 E300?

Thanks again,

Mark

1995 E300, 1995 E300D and 1995 E300 Diesel are the same car.

Maybe someone knows where to purchase a re-manufactured transmission for the 1995 E300D. I am in the Orlando area.

Try the dealer. In many cases MBs prices for rebuilt transmissions isn’t much more than reputable local rebuilders, and you get a MB warranty. Just about any shop will require the torque converter to be replaced to activate the warranty.

What’s wrong with the transmission? Did the problem happen suddenly or over time. Someone here might know how to fix it without rebuilding or replacing it.

If you are going to get a rebuild, check out Sun Valley SVMBZ. Great reputation, but you'll need a local installer or DIY.

Good luck!!!

Problem began with flaring six months ago.

When it would flare you could let off the pedal and it would "catch' the next gear.

Now will not go above 2nd gear and I have to use the shifter to achieve that.

Start out in D then it flares then shift to "2". So I am doing 40 mph at 4000 rpm.
