M104 no power

I will try to make this brief. I had oil in my spark plug wells which caused an occasional miss. Decided to change out the o-ring gaskets (6) and valve cover gasket.

Took out oil soaked spark plugs... oil in wells seeped into the cylinders..put a little sea foam in there and put everything back together... had a bit of a hard time starting, but it did and got the blue smoke out of the exhaust... after that I decided to take it for a run.

In neutral the engine performed flawlessly and will rev to 4000 rpm before being limited... however in drive, there is no power, tough to get going.... I took it for a spin on the highway, and could never get past 65mph.

I have new fuel pumps and filter.

Don't know if I have to much oil in the gas now or what. Any suggestions appreciated.

hmmm ....didn't think of that.... could that have happened after the job when i restarted the car and all the blue smoke came out the tail pipe?

I guess what is confusing me... is that when I put the car in neutral and rev it.... it revs just fine...

Also no CEL

I ordered a new cat today..... symptoms line up..... no acceleration going up hill.

The cat isn't going to just plug up instantly with the amount of oil you put through it. And, . .given the cat was cold it would have let the oil go right through rather than reacting and burning it. I would not got here just yet.

Is the MAF wire plugged in?

Is the air tube from the MAF to throttle installed so there are no leaks?

Any chance the EGR vacuum hose was swapped for the AIR vacuum hose ( AIR pump ). Both valves are in a similar location center of head above the exhaust manifold on the 94.

Although it is symptomatic of a plugged cat, IMO it wouldn't plug suddenly from what was done.

How old is the wire harness? Was the throttle actuator unplugged for any reason? IIRC, someone please jump in that knows for certain...those models had both an electronic throttle actuator that would reach full open throttle and a cable that only opened the throttle about 1/3rd of the way. I'm thinking it may only be opening part throttle mechanically due to a disconnected, defective or bad wire harness at the throttle actuator.

Good luck!!!

Plugs are correct... only about 15 k on them... still trying to figure out if I damaged the wiring. Harness. I have a new old stock one on the shelf... I believe mine is original, but I can’t seem to find and wire insulation degrading

Hi, Lee.

I agree that it's ignition related, as I had a similar problem in my '94 E320T; change the plugs, make sure the plug wires are clean, make sure your coil packs are properly seated and check that the wiring harness to the coil packs is in good shape.

Best Regards,
Rob

I am starting to think that you are right.... I am convinced the plugs are fine, but I might change them anyway....

I might not have the coil packs properly seated...although it seems like this just sit on the posts....will also check wiring harness... I have a NOS harness on the shelf that I have had for 5 years or so...

The coils push onto valve cover posts then top cover bolts go through the coils to hold everything together.

The top cover bolts almost always strip the threads out of the valve cover, so you may have to put in some thread inserts (aka "Heli-Coils").

I don’t think that cover is very critical. Mine is gone and never had a problem
