Hi guys i have just completed the ****box Rally which was 3614kms through outback Australia, i plan on doing this event again as its a fundraiser for the Cancer Council and this year we raised $2.35 million, my question is can I raise the front suspension of my 230e w124 m102 mercedes?

Yes. Simplist is getting thicker spring pads. Prolly good for an inch or two.

Negative - spring pads for W124 are available in 5mm increments from 8mm to 23mm, and due to the geometry of the suspension will result in 2x the increased thickness, so the absolute most you could get is 30mm; more probably, you'd get 20mm if you have the more common two-nub pads (13mm thickness).

I went with R129 500SL springs and 23mm pads, plus increased wheel and tire diameters and ended up with about 8" (200mm) total ground clearance on my rally W201, which has the same suspension configuration as the W124.

I also used the equivalent of the Bilstein B6 shock absorbers/struts to ensure full suspension travel with increased damping; DO NOT use the B8 sport package, as they are designed for a lowered suspension with reduced travel.

Thanks Rob, hard part is we are only allowed tobe in car worth $1000 or less so i have to keep costs to an absolute minimum, seems Australian models are slightly different from US or European models, seems i have sls in rear so may just need to pump up front, but thanks for your very useful info
