190e stopped running again

My 1985 190e 2.3 8V has stopped running again, so I need help. I had the car runnig well a few days ago, then the idle started to surge and drop for a few minutes and it died. I noticed the gas guage was reading very low and thought I had run it out of gas. I put 1/2 tank of gas in. Still does not run. If I depress the airflo plate in the CIS and shoot a touch of starting fluid in, it starts, then dies. That tells me it is not getting gas into the fuel distributor. I have gas pressure at the input to the distributor. My question.. Can anything in this unit be serviced by me? I am thinking maybe it is clogged. Can I clean it?

C'mon fellas, there is somebody out there more qualified than me on this one...

I would try your fuel filter first, it really sounds like a clogging problem.
