instrument cluster fuse keeps blowing

Hi again
I have a 500 SEL with a om603 engine in it and just today the fuel gauge, engine temp and oil pressure all went out, along with the indicators.

it looks like no 13 fuse but i cant be sure. But you can't replace it. It instantly blows. i was wondering what else is on that circuit other than the dash?

is there an obvious place to look for a culprit?

thanks again

Look at the wiring under the hood that connects to any sensor/gauge not working for a pinch spot to ground. If nothing disconnect those sensors to see if the short goes away.

Post a picture of one of the blown fuses if you can.

Good luck!!!

You don't mention the year of your car, but an 85 SEL has this> Fuse 12 8A white Stop-turn signal lamp, instrument cluster, diagnostic, warning monitor term. 8, cruise control, tachometer. Most MB cars of this vintage have some bulbs and unrelated components on the same circuit as the instrument cluster, although the particular fuse may vary from model to model. These other components could be the culprit.

Which sensors...any sensor that has a gauge that reads in the cluster. I'd expect the problem to be most likely from a pinched or chafed wire due to the engine swap and that the fuse blows instantly.

Good luck!!!
