Lance:

Somehow your oil has thickened considerably.

The virgin Delvac 1 5W-40 should have a viscosity around 15.0 cSt at 100 deg C.

Wonder why? I did replace the headgasket, turbo, injectors, and water pump over the past 10k miles. Right after the headgasket change, I ran some Delvac 1300 15w40 through for about 1000 miles as a flush to get rid of any coolant traces...do you suppose some of that thickened up the Delvac 1?

I changed the oil and filter after 1000 miles replacing the Delvac 1300 with Delvac 1, but I suppose there could have been enough residual left????

I can't say for sure but 1.8% soot will cause the oil to thicken some. The higher viscosity doesn't seem out of line or alarming to me.
