I have recently had to have my biodegradable loom replaced and ever since my W124 1995 E220 has problems with cold start. (I live in South Africa where it doesn't get very cold) I have tried to replace the part marked with the red arrow, but every time I connect it, it explodes with a loud pop. I suspect that this part has to do with fuel management, can that be? Is there a way to bypass this part successfully? Any suggestions will be welcome!

That is a cam sensor. What do you mean explodes with a loud "pop"?

Thanks for your reply. The black plastic part literally pops off the brass housing with quite a force, I have had to replace it twice and have given up as I don't know the cause. I suspect a short with the wiring loom having been replaced?
