I am planning on doing some of the basic maintainance on my 1991 300E myself. My questions simply is which repair manuals Haynes or Chiltons (or the Robert Bentley service manual at a much greater price) would be considered the best overall?

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance!

Guss

Call 1-800-FOR-MERC, ask for literature, this will get you a factory manual. . . who can tell you better how to work on a vehicle than the people who built it?

Good Luck,

I've been looking for repair manuals for my 85 300E. Haven't had much luck though. I was told by multiple sources that Haynes doesn't make a manual and the only Chiltons I've found that covers the 300E is an all imports, yellow pages thick service manual. Don't know how helpful it is, though it is only ~$19.95

Impco (www.************************) offers a W124 specific catalog that has a couple other options...

A W124 Work Shop Manual ~$30, which is also available elsewhere on the net, which is of questionable value. I bought it and was kinda disappointed as I was hoping for more diagrams w/ better illustrations. But, if you can get past that, it is kinda helpful (for the novice wrench like me) to help you go from "what the?!?" to "Oh, that figures."

Another option in Impco offers are Mercedes Benz manuals that come in volumes (from MBNA), down side? Combined price of ~$560, OUCH!

I also checked into the Bentley's option, but was told there wasn't any. And when I ask my nearest M.B. dealer for a service manual, he said they don't offer one.

Anyone have any other options?

Paula is on the right track. The best option to date is the CD-rom from MB themselves. It is ultra-complete for about 100 bucks. You can print out the diagrams for garage use and never have to worry about gumming up the paper manual. I believe it comes in Acrobat pdf format. Contact your local dealer or call the number mentioned earlier in the thread.

Hi,
Today I called the Benz dealer in my town for the cdrom. They didn't heard of it yet, so I called MB hq in my country. They also didn't hear of it. Can someone tell me where I can order the cd? I live in the Netherlands, (near Germany...., where they are made,... and also never heard of the cd-rom)

Thanks

I just called 800-for-merc today, (june 1)and was told there was no delivery date for the CD ROM for the w124, all the manuals that MB has for the w124 have been sold,(I was told they dont reprint) save the maintenence log books. you might want to try this link Http://www.tmcpubl.com//mercedes.html
they told me they have the lot and they will ship to europe.

Regards

Russla
