SRS Question??
hi
I took off my wheel to replace the wiper switch and disconected the air bag. The SRS light has come on and hasn't gone off. Can I manuelly reset the SRS system or does the MBshop need to reboot it? thanks dave 190e 16v Iroc 911 gyrocopter |

from what i understand if the airbag goes off the SRS light will come on and you need to replace your chip or something like that before the light will go off. I know your airbag did not go off, but disconnecting it may have confused it in to thinking so. Do a search on SRS light, i had done a search on it to find why mine came on, ended up being seat belt but i did read that the control unit needs to be replaced because it was programmed to not be able to be turned off. Do a search, i'm sure i'm pretty wrong about it, but i know there is an answer on here

When you connect the squib on the air bag, you have to hear the connector audibly click. If it didn't audibly click then the bag is not connected and that will give you the SRS lamp. Disconnecting/reconnecting air bags do not set the lamp if done correctly and there should be no need to change the crash sensor (unless you had an accident and the bag or ETR's deployed).

Dave:
Oh sure, a 319D, how many ya want? LOL A more common reason for the SRS light being on, given your scenario, is that the key was turned to ON when the airbag and steering wheel were removed, the SRS control unit will see the open connection to the airbag and set a code, thus activating the SRS light. I'm not sure if an independent shop would have a scanner to erase this SRS code or not, I would say it's pretty likely that a Euro-specific shop would be able to do this also, but the dealer can do it also. I would hope that if you explained what happened that they would erase this for you for little or nothing. Gilly

I didn't even think about the key being turned on setting a code. I guess I need to find some newer cars to play with .
