If you would like I can send you the instructions from my 124 CD on how to remove the auxilary fans.
I would recommend supplying power and ground directly to the suspect fan to make sure it is faulty. That is the easiest way to tell. Also the aux fan(s) should come on when the high pressure gets somewhere between 250- 300 psi. By simply connecting a ohm meter to the switch you can tell if the switch is completing the circuit or not. You need to be sure the system is properly charged though. HTH ![]()

Thanks:
That would be be wonderful!!! if you could send the instructions to the removal. I had the A/C charged last Friday, did the proper switch test (per the instructions on this great web-site), and checked out the fan. I have two fans.... one works and the other needs some help to get going, but once it gets going, it works OK (until it stops again). If you read the entire thread you'll see that I have discovered multiple problems. Seems like I get one thing taken care of and there are 3 more (sound familiar?). I read on one of the threads that it might be the bearings, and they can be replaced. I'll open up the fan and see what lies within and go from there. Again, the instructions would be fantastic. By the way, where did you get your CD? Dave

My indy shop wants $120 to r/r the aux fans on my 300TE.
Is this worth it? How much disassembly must I do to get to both fans? Having just put euro 500E Hella's on my 300TE, I can attest to just one really big pain replacing the headlight assemblies... the passenger side inside bolt is almost impossible to reach. The bolt that goes into the side of the passenger side aux fan looks equally tough to get at. It is one of those jobs that I would gladly buy a special tool (what kind of tool?) to get that 8 mm nut back on the inside of that headlight assembly. Using my fingers and the stock MB wrench, it took me hours to get that one bolt in. The rest of the job wasn't too bad, a few hours tops.
