190E 1.8 (19991) Engine Mount Choices Aplenty
So as per the title, I have a 190e 1.8 made in 1991 and runs on petrol.
I've recently noticed on letting out the clutch in first to pull away that I'm often getting a rattling shudder from the front before moving off. I'm betting it's the engine mounts, as I've got almost 100,000 miles on the clock. Elsewhere, people have ventured it may be clutch issues. I'm ruling that out as when I put the handbrake on and ease the clutch out with a little throttle there are zero signs of slipping and the car valiantly attempts to drag the locked back wheels. I've experienced none of the other signs of a failing clutch. I don't think it's the usual rubber drive issues, either. There's no clunk from the rear / underneath when engaging reverse or first and pulling away. Anyhow, at the moment I'm at the sourcing parts stage and there seems to be a bit of a confusion of choice. Apparently I have the option of hydro mounts or metal and rubber mounts. Are either better than the other? Also, I've seen some with the note "for use with vehicles with air conditioning" and also " "for use with vehicles without air conditioning" I was wondering what the difference was - clearance of pipes or similar? My confusion is further compounded by the knowledge that my car is the very basic model without the fancy options like sunroof, rev counter, nor electrical operated mirrors or windows etc. So it came without air conditioning BUT, as the vehicle originates from Cyprus (hot), the original owner had an aftermarket aircon system installed, but may have left the engine mounts as standard. So, can anyone make a recommendation as to the best type to get? Am I at least correct that the mounts will be identical, rather than handed? And yes, I've realized my 9 key stuck when typing the title. ![]() |
