E320 Coupe starter solenoid exploded while jumping at X27……

New to the forum but man this no start deal has gotten me very familiar with this car! What started off as a no start right after we got some low20’s temps made me think I needed a new battery. Got the battery and it started a couple of times but then went back to no start. Then I noticed that I could start it while slowly moving the shifter in between reverse neutral and drive. So I replaced the NSS and nope….still no start.Did more research and thought okay maybe it’s the ignition switch. Replaced that as well but still no start. So I read that I could run 12V to the middle prong on X27 under the hood and it would start after tapping that prong numerous times before it started to crank over. Did that few times but it was more difficult to start after each time. Well I tried to start it that way a couple of days ago and the dang solenoid exploded with heavy smoke out from where the starter is located. Before that happened I was starting to think that the starter was the culprit the whole time. Cause even jumping at X27 it was not wanting to start for 10-15 minutes of tapping that prong. From what I’ve seen in the search it looks like this no start issue is a common failure. Has anyone run into this situation and it turning out to be the starter?
