LOL good one.

I'll have it out today.

As Tim mentioned I still think it is one of the better engines MB has built lately.

Got it out today.

I want to give everyone a heads up regarding the drivers side front axle. I hit it with the hammer and drift to drive it out and unfortunately it did not break loose at the slip joint but pulled the entire shaft/bearing out of the oil pan housing section. There was a lip that held a circlip in place at the bearing and it is now gone.

I'm going to recommend let Kroil penetrant site at the slip joint before hitting it to separate it.

Replacement engine ready to go in tomorrow. Pulled oil pan off locked up engine and found #2 piston connecting rod had a spun bearing. 1 and 6 looked rough but 2 was worst. Crank bearings looked good.

I have not found anything obvious that would have caused it.

Got replacement engine in and bolted down today. Whoever came up with the heat shields and access to starter should be run off.

Uh Oh or damn. Went to tighten up torque converter bolts and I'll be dog gone if one of them is stripped out (on the replacement engine flex plate). I'm going to just drop tranny to change it. Too much trouble dealing with starter to pull engine back out.

Would a helicoil work instead of removing the tranny?

IDK, I did not get very much past bolting the engine to tranny and it is still on the lift so it would be much trouble to swap the flex plate. I'll use the one off of the locked up engine. Also, when I went to remove the bad fastener it broke.

Started the replacement engine for the first time today. I moved the injectors from the old to the new so did not have to change the id numbers in the ecu. It started easy and sounded good. I did not leave it running long at all. Prior to starting I did crank it over a lot with the injectors disconnected to build oil pressure. Is there anyway to determine that the oil pressure is ok (other than to start and leave it running)? I'm not finding anything in the Autel system to give me an oil pressure reading.

Fuse 42 in fuse box on passenger side of trunk is for fuel pump. If there is residual pressure in the rail it will start and run a little bit after fuse is pulled. I got the engine from LKQ and it seems to be a good one so far. I'll set level in transmission and car should be good to go.

Drove car out today on interstate. Runs out good. Looks like the LKQ engine is a good one 👍.

Thanks. I've got to look tomorrow. I reset adaptations before test and it runs out good but im losing signal from one of downstream o2 sensors. Will ck connection tomorrow and I will say dealing with the o2 sensor connectors is a pia on this application.

Had a loose connection on downstream o2 sensor, bank 2. This one went home today. Pretty straight forward job.
