Transmission swap

A quick question. Can I fit a 722.400 transmission from a 190E into a 300TE 24?
a) Will it fit?
b) Will it work?
I only need it on a temporary basis while I rebuild the 722.359 from the car.
(I can get the 190 box very cheap!)

It would be cheaper to rent a car. The combined work of removing and replacing the trans twice is equivalent to the work needed to do the appropriate repair once in the first place.

The 722.3 and .4 trannies are very similar but they might have a slightly different length which could cause problems. I'm thinking that the 260e had the .4 tranny in the same body as the 300e had a .3 tranny. If thats the case they might just work.

Thanks Steve, I'm sure you're right.
I guess the appeal of a trans for less than $100 affected my logic!

PS Got stuck in traffic today for about 2 hours on & off, & as long as I kept it in D it was OK (N or P causes horrible noises from the box!) Still get the thump in the back on up-changes when it's hot though.
